VALUE CREATION THROUGH MANAGING CROSS-FUNCTIONAL BUSINESS EXCELLENCE
Creating a business excellence management framework & leveraging a business excellence best practices repository including recent megatrends such as agentic AI, advanced analytics and responsible management.
Defining, developing and evaluating business excellence should be a core competence for any supply chain organisation to maximise efficiency, value creation and the return on capability investments including technology. In practice, this is easier said than done.
Smaller and medium-sized business - especially those that have had fast growth - may not have a clear picture of their processes or how best practice should be defined. For larger businesses, the complexity across business units is likely to mean much more diverse practices and definitions that may vary depending on the context. In both cases, there may be neither consensus or clarity on what constitutes business excellence nor how this may need to be evolved over time.
Other points of discussion may include:
- supporting multi-stakeholder consensus on business excellence definitions, evaluation criteria and assigning their ownership across the organisation
- supporting a digitised and supervised self-assessment process
- benchmarking maturity levels across organisational units and getting AI-based recommendations to achieve full business excellence at the lowest possible cost and in the shortest possible timeframe

LEVERAGING GLOBAL COMPETENCE CENTRES
Which businesses should consider outsourcing elements of their supply chain as a service? When and how can Global Competence Centres be leveraged? What are the pros and cons of the supply chain as a service model?
Supply chain organisations are under pressure to deliver transformation and harness the capabilities of advanced technologies while also managing costs to protect margins. A common barrier to transformation is the lack and/or expense of internal capabilities which is how outsourcing can help. Larger businesses routinely use 'captive' (i.e. fully owned & exclusive) shared service centres in locations that offer both skilled workforces and competitive costs but this may not be feasible for all businesses.
Global Competence Centres work with multiple smaller and medium-sized businesses so that they can leverage the benefits of technical skills and cost advantages for supply chain functions as has become commonplace for financial and accounting functions.
